The brief
Soften the edges of a compact paved seating area while keeping enough lawn for everyday use. The route to the shed and back door needs to stay clear.
Scope of work
Mark out the bed edges before planting. Improve the soil, add a small palette of repeat plants and leave space for their mature spread. Keep plants back from the door swing and the route through the garden.
Keeping it in shape
Water new planting at the roots while it establishes. Keep the lawn edge defined, check ties on the young tree and weed beds before unwanted plants set seed.
